A Tribue To Mel Torme
Mel Tormé was one of the finest and most enduring singers from the ’40s to the ’90s. His style shared much with that of his idol « Ella Fitzgerald. » Both were deeply rooted in the swing era. Tormé was known as « The Velvet Fog » which described his husky, wide ranging voice. He was one of William Price King’s earliest influences. With great humility King has put together a program of songs showcasing his admiration for this iconic jazz performer.
This homage to Mel Tormé is a glide down memory lane through the Great American Songbook of Standards, a show reminiscent of ‘The Good Ole Days’ when melody and rhythm reigned. King interprets Mel Tormé’s songs with tremendous verve and consummate ease. His unique phrasing and feeling are combined with the passion he acquired through years of singing these legendary songs and the amazing dexterity and artistry of Fred D’Oelsnitz at the piano and Kiki Aublette on the double bass. King is also putting together a more intimate tribute to Mel Tormé with the versatile and eloquent guitarist Gabriel Anfosso.
